Texas Tech University

At Texas Tech University, you will find excellent academic opportunities at an affordable cost. Students and faculty here are tackling some of the world's most challenging problems and opportunities in engineering, business, agriculture, law and energy technologies. The Princeton Review's 2010 Best Colleges named Texas Tech a "Best of the West" college.

Future health care professionals can pursue nine pre-professional degrees, which may be followed with a hands-on education at the Texas Tech Health Science Center, including innovative research and extensive clinical experience. TTUHSC has five professional schools: Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences and Allied Health Sciences, which includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, optometry and communication disorders.

The liberal arts programs are counted among the top 10 percent in the nation by Phi Beta Kappa, the country's oldest undergraduate honor society.

Texas Tech is located in Lubbock, a city of 220,000. It is the medical, cultural and educational center of the high plains of West Texas. It was ranked third in 2007 among 311 cities by Money Magazine's "Best Places" for affordability of housing; availability of leisure and cultural options; and its sunny, dry climate.

About 1,600 international students are studying at Texas Tech. They enjoy one of the nation's largest sports and recreation centers, with club soccer and adventure trips such as kayaking, caving, climbing and cycling.

International undergraduate students are eligible for the OIA's competitive scholarships, based on academic achievement and financial need. Graduate students are eligible for research and teaching assistantships in addition to departmental scholarships. For the academic year beginning Fall 2010, the Graduate School is awarding $2,000 scholarships on a first-come, first-serve basis to 543 graduate students beginning a new degree program. This scholarship also qualifies students for in-state tuition, a savings of about $5,500. These scholarships are a one-time award that will reduce the first year's average tuition and fees by about two-thirds.
